A Time for Relaxed Socializing via Zoom

When COVID-19 surfaced and the church building closed, I began to think about what I would be missing during this most unique of times. I am used to working from home having performed my job from my home office for over two years. However, losing the people contact that I took for granted created an unexpected void. I had plenty of church meetings to keep me busy, and tons of “business” to tend to. I missed contact with people where an agenda was not being met. Out of this personal need came the idea for Tea & Talk.

Our group meets on Thursday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30AM (sometimes we run a little longer because we are enjoying the company). There have been as few as two attendees and as many as eight. The group is very relaxed, and we rarely have a planned topic. Some examples of impromptu subjects were: “how did you end up at Saint Matthew” or “where is your favorite vacation spot”, or a whole discussion on sailing prompted by a picture on someone’s wall. Typically, we are joined briefly by two or three cats, and occasionally we get a friendly wave from Dennis. The group dynamic is fun and uplifting, and we all look forward to it every week!

The group was originally set to meet for one month. When the month was up most wanted to continue. Now we have the sessions scheduled through the end of the year. Our meetings remind us of the impromptu chats we a had after services at St. Matthew. We have laughed together, cried together and prayed together. We look forward to being with this group of ladies every week and miss their company if we cannot attend. If you are interested in joining this group or starting a new one, email Karen Widin.
