What’s Happening During February and beyond?


The cold snowy months of February and March tend to keep us home, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t have lots of fun together via Zoom. Because of the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in our area we will not be having any in person activities yet!!! So please join us online for fun starting with the following events.


Sunday Morning

  • Worship, 9:30 AM Led by Rev. Eric Trozzo. In person and live stream.
  • Zoom Coffee Hour following worship. The link is distributed in the Friday email, or contact the church office.
  • Congregational Activity Time via Zoom on designated Sundays. Announcements begin at 10:30am.

Monday Morning Bible Study Fellowship (MMBSF) 10:30AM

Led by Rev. Dr. Richard Herman, this group morphed out of weekly Bible Study that met at church for many years. For Zoom info, contact Wayne Becker.


Tea & Talk, Thursdays at 10:30 AM

A weekly Zoom gathering for anyone who would enjoy conversation and company. For Zoom info, contact Karen Widin.


Friday February 4th at 8 PM Zoom Olympic Party

Want “Company” for the Special Opening Ceremony Presentation for the Olympics on NBC? Join us on Zoom for a time to be each together while watching. Bring treats and drinks and have fun with your church family.


Feb. 6 11:00am Congregational Annual Meeting

Feb. 13 11:00am Letter Writing Day via zoom.

Gather note cards, construction paper, and markers. Write letters and notes to others in the St. Matthew community that you may not have seen in a while. Names and addresses will be suggested. Chat with others while writing. See weekly emails for the Zoom link.


Bishop’s Challenge: Quilting in the African American Tradition

On Wed. Feb 16 at 7 p.m., join Professor Dr. Steven Hobbs, a retired law professor, renowned storyteller, and quilter, for a Zoom presentation about the quilting traditions in the African American tradition. His educational and inspirational stories connect our Bishop’s Challenge quilt project to the history of quilting.

Saturday February 19th at 10:30 AM Chocolate Shop Tour

Are you ready for a field trip (virtual or in person)? Join us for February’s Adult Fellowship with a trip, either in person or via Zoom, to BC Collins Chocolates, 1522 Route 206 – Suite B, in Tabernacle, NJ. The shop is owned by Mike and Kim Collins (daughter of Doreen and Bill Lawrence). We will learn about the history of chocolate, how Mike became a chocolatier, and other fun facts about chocolate. You will be able to purchase products in person or online.

Feb. 11:00am 20 All Creation Sings

Postponed from January. The ELCA has a new worship book designed as a supplement to our Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnals. Cantor Dave Harp will give an introduction to this book and some of its features. See weekly emails for the Zoom link.


Books, Balls, & Blocks

Wednesday, February 23rd at 6:30pm. Free and fun virtual event for children (ages 0-5) and their families who are residents of Burlington County. Three virtual activity stations. The Book station features a silly interactive reading of Shark in the Park and tips and tricks to make story time exciting. The Ball station will explore ways balls and household items can be used for play. The Block station will explore how to use common household items, blocks, and Legos to build. Sunday February 27th at 11:00 AM Intergenerational Event “Let’s Lift Your Voice…”

Something very special for everyone of all ages. Join us for this intergenerational event as we learn the history and beauty behind the Hymn “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” As mentioned in our FCC report, “Let’s Lift Your Voice” is something very special for everyone of all ages. Join us as we learn the history and beauty behind the Hymn “Lift Every Voice.” Pat Covington will be leading us in a story time, a craft activity and learning about the poem by James Weldon Johnson. Details will come via email, including information about distribution of supplies and how to log into this activity.


Tuesday March 1st (Time TBD) Fastnaught Celebration

Intergenerational Event “Family Foolishness”

We celebrate Fastnacht together online—again!!! Remember it’s BYOD (Bring Your Own Donut). We have some crazy games planned for all ages.

Covid has been a real challenge for all of us and at times we are exhausted, but with God’s continual help we will get through this everyone. Karen and Peggy encourage you to take part in our zoom activities to stay in contact with each other.

JOIN US FOR A LENT COURSE

Pastor Eric will be offering a course during the season of Lent on Christian virtues. Discussion will be guided by the theological images from Dante Alighieri’s Purgatorio. The classes will begin in March, but you are invited to find a copy of the book and begin taking a look at it. Any translation is fine, though Pastor Eric will be drawing from the new one by Mary Jo Bang. Reading the text is not required for coming to the class sessions, but it will enrich the experience.
