There is always something happening at Saint Matthew, and we invite you to be a part of it all. Below are some key events and updates for our community, including a special celebration for our confirmands, the return of a beloved tradition, and opportunities for prayer and reflection.

Minister of Communication
At its September meeting, the congregational council approved a change of title for Mary von Osten. Her role will now be known as “Minister of Communication.” To be clear, this is not a change in duties or hours. Rather, the change was made to better reflect her duties and priorities.
Minister: The work that she does is a ministry. It involves care and outreach.
Communication: The key functions of the role are communication-based. These include internal communications within the congregation such as bulletins, newsletters, eblasts, talking to groups about legacy letters and planning, and phone directories. It also includes external communication such as press releases, social media engagement, signs and brochures, working with community groups who use the building, and communication with members of the public.
She will continue with the core administrative tasks such as maintaining files and records.

Confirmation and Affirmation of Baptism
We are excited to have 9 youth completing our confirmation program this year. There will be a final class on Saturday, Oct. 25. During worship on Sunday, Oct. 26 we will celebrate with them as they affirm their baptisms.

St. Francis Day and Blessing the Stuffed Animals
The Season of Creation officially concludes on October 4 with St. Francis Day. Because that day falls on a Saturday this year, we are transferring it to the following day, Sunday, Oct. 5. As we gather in worship that day, we will remember the example of faithful living seen in the life of Francis of Assisi. Adults and children alike, bring your stuffed animals along that day for a time of blessing. The blessing will be held during the Children’s Time and will not be limited to children!!!!

Contemplative Prayer
The contemplative prayer time will resume on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 3:00 PM. Come slow down and join in a time of reflective prayer. Meet in the library or join the Zoom session, using the link in the Oct. 21 email.
