Weekly Devotions for 5/3

This coming Thursday – May 5 – is the National Day of Prayer. I invite you to take part in the day. For a guide on how you might do it, I am sharing a suggestion that my wife, Rev. Wendolyn Trozzo, put together for her congregation, Lord of Life Lutheran in Tabernacle. It uses reading bible verses where the verse number matches the time of day. Hopefully it will prove helpful to you in making the National Day of Prayer a meaningful event for you and your spiritual life.

National Day of Prayer

Please join us in praying at these times. You can set alarms in your phone!

  • 8:39am Pray that you will see Jesus’ presence with you all day long. [Nothing] will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39
  • 11:28am Pray and name the things that weary you. Come to me, all who are weary and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
  • 12:12pm Pray for those ‘running the race’ against great difficulties. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
  • 1:57pm Pray that you may know God’s care for you. Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.1 Peter 5:7
  • 2:31pm Pray with gratitude for who God is in your life. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. Psalm 23
  • 3:36pm Pray for God to guide your paths. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:3-6
  • 5:24pm Pray for justice in our world. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Amos 5:24
  • 6:10pm Table grace: the Lord’s Prayer, found in Matthew 6:9-13
  • 8:26pm Pray with gratitude that we don’t have to pray well – that God receives all prayers with love
