The Caring Board

Art: Girl Scouts

During a Day of Service, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, members of Girl Scout Troop 20002 spent the day making cards for homebound members of the community.

Our church has many ways to show our concern for our fellow parishioners.  Every Sunday we pray for various people: Pastor Eric calls and visits members; our Stephen Ministry has direct contact with their care receivers; our Eucharistic ministers visit those who are shut in; our Altar Guild members often deliver flowers to our members; and we have various fellowship events.

I’d like us to go a step further and show we care about one another by sending cards, phoning others, praying for someone, or–even better-all three.

Several months ago a Caring Board was placed in our narthex with names of members each week who we think might like to be remembered with a card, a call or a prayer.  It doesn’t have to be a serious problem–it can just be someone who would like to know we care or are thinking of them.

I’d like to encourage members to show their care and concern by taking a name on the Caring Board and sending a card, calling an individual or saying a prayer for someone. Feel free to add the names of people to our board. You may know of a church member who is feeling forgotten, has a serious diagnosis, is facing surgery, has a relative with an addiction, has a death in the family or any other situation where  a card would be appreciated.. (Our Board is for our church members.)  It’s a simple way to strengthen our connections with one another.  During fellowship time or any other time you have a moment, take a card from the board and write a quick note to the person listed to let them know someone is thinking of them.

Let’s show we care!

P.S. There are free cards on a table next to the Caring board so if the words are appropriate, please take one. I find the “Thinking of you” cards are appropriate for most people.
