“During the time of the early church, the apostles decided to choose among their faithful disciples those who would be sent into the community to minister to the needs of the people. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit…”
—Acts 6:5

The past twenty-four years of our church’s Stephen Ministry program have complemented each of the Pastors’ ministry by expanding high-quality Christian care. This year alone represents more than 677 people hours of service to the church by the Stephen Ministry Team. The Rev. Eric Trozzo, the Rev. Peggy Marks (our sponsor on Council), Trish Myers. Karen Widin, and Sue Kuhn have championed the ministry through leadership, hard work, and faithfulness to make the ministry possible.
Praise belongs to the current, active Stephen Ministers: Rozella Bower, Barbara Duffy, Drew Fennema, Sue Kuhn, JoAnn Lawrence, Heather Lerch, Trish Myers, Kate Rauscher, and Mildy Walton who faithfully and prayerfully listen to provide distinctively Christian care to one care receiver each week and to one another during twice-monthly ministry sessions.
God is working through the Stephen Ministry at Saint Matthew Church as we reach out and make His love known through caregiving that helps care receivers resolve difficulties and achieve growth.
Let us pray that our church will continue to serve one another and truly care as Christ taught us to do.
