On August 11th. Drew Fennema and Mildy Walton were commissioned to be Stephen Ministers in our congregation. They have faithfully completed fifty hours of training to prepare them to give confidential, Christian care to adults having difficulty with events in their lives. Mildly and Drew will provide emotional and spiritual support to aid their care receivers in dealing more effectively with their situations by attentively listening and bringing God’s healing love through scripture and prayer.
The newest Stephen Ministers will join the current Stephen Ministry Team for twice a month Continuing Education and Peer Supervision sessions, as well as, meeting with their care receivers weekly. Drew and Mildy have described what Stephen Ministry means to them:
“Stephen Ministry is a lay call to serve. Answering that call has given us a comprehensive guided study of ways to be present to someone who is experiencing challenging life circumstances. As a quiet ministry of Christ’s compassion, Stephen Ministry means to a way to pay forward God’s love.”
Mildy Walton
For most of my life I have always had a feeling that God gave me life and I need to give something back. When I became a member of Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, I was introduced to Stephen Ministries and immediately knew that was for me. A calling so that I can glorify God! Like it says in Matthew 5:16, I want to let me shine the light before others, so that they may see my good works, and glorify the Father, who is in heaven.”
With love in Lord Jesus!
