We recently gave a full update on Property activity on Ministry night, but we have a few important items for our newsletter.
Volunteers are needed for the St. Matthew’s clean-up day, which has been moved to October 4th (rain date: October 11th) to prepare for the open house on the 12th. Projects will include general grounds maintenance like trimming and cleaning, as well as major tasks like restoring the front lawn. If enough people sign up, the team will also replace mulch with fire-safe stone and paint doors. Please save the date and look for sign-up sheets to help make the church shine.
Let’s Make St. Matthew Shine! Join Our Clean-Up Day on Oct. 4th
First we are moving our clean-up day to October 4th with a rain date of October 11th. We are doing this to put our best foot forward for our open house on October 12th. This usually includes trimming up the parking lot borders, blowing the parking lot free of dirt and debris, trimming our decorative shrubs, cleaning the windows, removing fallen limbs and attending to what else we find.
{In the meantime we will be attending to our front lawn which has suffered from construction issues. We will be York raking, leveling where necessary, raking out the weeds and re-seeding. If we have enough workers we will order the stone, which the fire marshall has mandated replace mulch everywhere there is flammable trim, soffits or woodwork three feet from the building. There are doors that need surface or trim painting.
Note: York raking is a technique to improve soil quality and prevent weed growth by removing debris, and thatching lawns. We’ll use a specialized rake that helps loosen soil, allowing oxygen, water and nutrients to penetrate deeper into the ground, thus promoting healthier growth.

We also expect requests from other teams for decorative plantings, etc.
This is an unusually short update because we need to focus on having enough people power to accomplish these tasks. We will post sign up sheets so we can assess what we can accomplish and plan to have the right tools in place. Please hold October 4th and 11th open in your calendars. I know this is a biased opinion but we are actually fun to work with. So please help us in making St. Matthew shine for the open house.
