Private Confession

Did you know that the Lutheran tradition not only allows for private confession of sins, but actually strongly encourages it? While it can be done any time, it is particularly appropriate to do during the season of Lent. Pastor Eric will be available this Lent for those who wish to have a time of private confession.

Some things to know about private confession in the Lutheran tradition:

  • Why do it? If there are particular struggles or sins in your life that bother you or have you feeling guilty, it is a powerfully healing experience to share those issues with someone and hear the promise that in Christ you are forgiven by God.
  • What to Expect: You will meet with the pastor in the conference room for a conversation. There is an order of beginning with prayer, then sharing your confession, and finally hearing the promise of the gospel. You are not required to list every sin or to be familiar with specific rituals. You simply need to share what is troubling your conscience.
  • When: Contact Pastor Eric to set up an appointment. If you wish to have a “walk-in” time, he will keep his schedule clear of other commitments between noon and 2:00 on Thursdays during Lent.
