PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greeting Fellow St. Matthew Members,

St. Matthew is reopening to more of the activities, ministries, and works that have been traditional in our Congregation. October saw the first funeral celebrated inside the sanctuary, socially distanced. We began a robust Sunday School, albeit virtually. The new video apparatus is giving our remote worship attenders an experience much more like being at in the sanctuary, in-person.

Council’s Meeting spent some time in preparation for our Fall Stewardship appeal. Stewardship is one of the fundamental ministries of our congregation. We all act as stewards of the resources of St. Matthew – resources provided by those who have preceded us in the congregation. We donate financially to pay for the needs of our staff, to keep the lights on, and to buy the physical goods needed every day. We give of our time to create vibrant ministries for all. And, we give of our knowledge and experience of St. Matthew, its traditions, its customs and its sense of purpose through the years.

Jack Horton and Rene Cherson will be in contact about financial stewardship and giving, both for our operations in 2021, and to begin a capital campaign that will repay the recent congregation approved loan from the memorial fund, plus the next steps in our campaign to make our campus more accessible and welcoming.

Now I ask you to think about your ability to give of your time. St. Matthew’s mission is expressed through its members being actively involved. We have very active groups in Social Ministry in our Green Team and Anti-Racism groups. The Choir will return to its active glory, hopefully soon. In addition we seek a member for an open spot on Council, and more parents and adult leaders for Sunday School. Think and pray on what you can do to help us live our mission, and to fully be, “A community of disciples reaching out through Christ in loving worship, witness and service.”
