Opportunities to Serve Our Church

We need your gifts for the common good. Here are a few of the critical ministries with which we need help right now. Please contact the folks listed, or Pastor Ingrid, Bill, or the Office.

Healing Prayer Leaders for Sundays

After Communion, in the rear of the church, Prayer Leaders pray with individuals at a wooden kneeler. Sue K. is looking for Prayer Leaders, who would have a training session in which they discuss the meaning of healing prayers and are given various written prayers that could be prayed, or used as templates. Ideally, Prayer Leaders would be scheduled once per month.

Sunday Ushers

We are in great need of all ages and genders! At heart ushering is about hospitality. Ushers greet people with bulletins, help with the offering, Communion, and help people who look lost. They also straighten up the pews after worship. An usher is part of an usher team of 5-8 people that gets scheduled for a month at a time. Different people on the team take a week or even a few weeks of the month. Ushers are trained “on-the-job” and work with experienced folks who guide them.

Coordinator for a driving-to-worship Ministry

There are a number of elderly members who are unable to drive anymore, and really miss coming to worship. We desperately need a driving ministry, and the beginning of any ministry is a coordinator. Pastor would work with the Coordinator in developing the ministry.

Note writer for visitors to the church

Evangelism chair, Pam B., is looking for somebody to write “welcome to St. Matthew, glad you came” notes to people who visit the congregation. Pastor contacts people by email or phone, but a handwritten note by a parishioner is remembered. Pastor would give names and addresses whenever visitors attend (1-2/week at some times in the year and 1/month other times).

Candle maker

Worship & Music chair, Peter J., is looking for somebody to make one large candle from used altar candles because we need a substantial candle for the Lenten Vespers service (which begins early March).

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit…To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:4,7)
