This Lent, journey with Saint Matthew Lutheran Church through a season of reflection, learning, and spiritual growth. We offer a variety of opportunities to deepen your faith and connect with our community, from traditional Ash Wednesday and Lenten services to a unique Pysanky workshop celebrating the ancient art of Ukrainian egg decorating. Join us as we explore the themes of Lent and prepare for the joy of Easter.
Find Connection This Lent: Worship and Activities

Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is on March 5. The full Ash Wednesday worship service will be at 7:00pm, and available on our YouTube channel as well. There will also be two short informal services: at noon for those unavailable in the evening and at 4:00 for children.

Bell & Vocal Choir Rehearsals
Bell Choir Rehearsals have resumed for the Lenten season at 6:00-7:00 PM Wednesday (starting Ash Wednesday this is followed by the Wednesday service). Choir has also resumed Wednesday rehearsals for the Lenten season from 7:30–8:30 PM.

Lent Wednesdays
Wednesday evenings for the remainder of Lent there will be evening prayer at 7:00. Each week will highlight a different section of Martin Luther’s Small Catechism. It will be streamed on YouTube as well as available in-person.

Adult Forum 9:15AM Sunday
For most of the month of March, during the season of Lent, there will be a study on the book of Exodus. CLF would like to remind the congregation that Pastor Eric needs support with organizing the Adult Forum. Please consider sharing a small portion of your time to support the Pastor and this all important part of Saint Matthew’s spiritual and academic education.

Contemplative Prayer
Learn more about contemplative prayer and experience being open to receiving God in a few moments of stillness. Pastor Eric leads a monthly contemplative prayer group the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 3:00. It is held in the church library and can also be accessed by Zoom. It will be held on March 19.

Pysanky Workshop
Join the Fellowship and Congregational Care Ministry on March 25th from 1-3pm for a Pysanky Workshop, celebrating spring with the ancient art of Ukrainian egg decorating. Led by teaching artist Jenny Santa Maria, participants of all ages will learn the history and techniques of creating intricate designs using beeswax and dyes. All supplies provided for this hands-on experience, where you’ll craft your own pysanka and uncover its vibrant colors. Cost is $50, limit of 16 people.
Pastor’s Class
Are you interested in joining St. Matthew Lutheran Church? Are you interested in a refresher on some of the basics of Christian history and teaching? Do you not remember much from confirmation classes? Are you new to the Lutheran tradition of Christianity? If your answer to any of these questions is “yes,” join in for the Pastor’s Class!
Classes will be Wednesday evenings in Lent, following the evening prayer service. Classes will run from 7:30-8:30, and will be hybrid – you are welcome to be in person in the library or join via Zoom! All are welcome, and it is OK if you can’t make it to every session. Contact the office for the Zoom link. It will also be provided in Tuesday emails.

Savior, Servant, Friend: Devotions for Lent
Our Lenten devotion booklets this year will be “Savior, Servant, Friend” by A. Trevor Sutton. Devotions in this daily devotional for Lent dwell upon what it means to have such a close relationship with such an amazing Lord. Copies will be available to be picked up at the church. Look for it! There will also be a few copies of devotional booklets for families available.
