John O’Meara was honored last month by the Moorestown Service Council as Citizen of the Year.

One of 72 area residents recognized since 1954 for their commitment and dedication to the community, John has been a long-time member of the Rotary Lunch Club, served on the Moorestown Free Library Association Board, St Matthew’s Church Council and Property team, MEND, and the Moorestown School of Music, which he and his wife Mary Anne founded.

“Making a difference in someone’s life is its own reward,” John told the Moorestown Sun.

“You can’t deposit those funds in the bank, but what they do is they build lifelong friendships and contacts. It’s like meeting the neighbor across the street, and suddenly you’ve got a background and contact that just automatically opens the doors between us, and you feel like you’ve got new friends. Be open to new things and new opportunities.”
