Lyra Concert: Saturday Sept. 7th

LYRA Concert at SMLC
Saturday, September 7pm

LYRA is a community of professional musicians, most of whom are students or graduates of the St. Petersburg Conservatory (Russia), who sing in churches and musical theaters throughout that city. Though members of LYRA represent different musical professions: choral conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists, music teachers-it is their passion for ensemble singing that unites them.

LYRA’s main goal is exploring and popularizing Russian choral music from the ancient songs of the Orthodox church to works of little-known, but remarkable composers of the 18th-20th centuries. Folk songs of lyric, dancing and ritual nature are performed, not only in the composer’s original arrangements, but those of LYRA~as well. Secular songs of Russian classical composers Taneev, Tchaikovsky, and Rakhamaninov represent yet another side of LYRA~creative activity. Admission is free and an offering will be taken.

WANTED: SMLC Households to Host LYRA Members

Again, we will need host families for the three men and two women members of the choir. This year, however, we are first on their tour instead of at the end as has been the case in recent years. They will arrive in Moorestown directly from St. Petersburg on Friday, September 6th, at approx. 4-4:30 p.m. and will leave on Sunday, September 8th, at approx. 7am. This will necessitate housing them for two nights in order that they can rest the day of the concert and try to get rid of some of their jet lag. It would be best if a family can host for both nights, but if there is someone who can do only one night, we will try to get someone for the second night. If families would like to pool resources for meals, that would be acceptable as well. Two people can stay in the same room, but would need separate beds. If you are able to help, please contact Bernie Gustad.
