Lunch Bunch

A food ministry which provides a cold lunch, once per month to the patrons of Cathedral Kitchen in Camden.

Wow – I didn’t realize it’s been three years since I’ve written about this food ministry; early 2019 was the last article. Did you know that this past February the Lunch Bunch began its 22nd year? For that we thank God…and you. We are blessed to have your support these many years in sustaining this effort.

If you’re new to our church family and not familiar with this ministry – simply put, it consists of a monthly gathering of volunteers (anyone wishing to participate) who prepare approximately 200 sandwiches for the folks at the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. For the last two years – due to the pandemic – we’ve had to modify our routine and go with the flow of matching available volunteers with the workload. However, now that things seem to be returning to a somewhat normal pattern – we’ve resumed our group gathering on the 2nd Thursday evening of the month at 7:00 pm in the basement. Lately we’ve been making beef baloney/cheese and PB&J sandwiches. These are supplemented by a case of bananas and home baked goodies donated by you. The next morning (Friday) one of our congregation members delivers the food to Camden in time for the noon meal.

For the last nine years we’ve partnered with Wegman’s and via their community support program – we’ve receive gift cards to supplement our monthly food purchases. What a blessing that has been. If you’ve never shopped at Wegman’s – you might want to check them out. They have items ranging from economy to gourmet, so you should find whatever you’re looking for within your price range.

Monetary donations continue to be received from congregants – but nowhere near the levels of the past. This ministry is not a line item in the church’s annual operating budget and therefore depends on your gifts. We thank you for your continued prayers and financial support.

Currently, items which are most needed are large jars of creamy peanut butter, jam, home baked goods and zip lock sandwich bags. If you plan to donate baked goods – please put them on a disposable plate – so we won’t need to return your favorite platter – grin. All donations can be placed on the desk just outside the main office.

We thank God for you and your continued support.

Thanks a bunch…. a Lunch Bunch!

Peace,
Deacon Bill Lawrence
