The Monday Morning Bible Study (MMBS) continues each Monday at 10:30am on the internet via Zoom while we lovingly isolate amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Now evolving out of our traditional Monday Morning Bible Study in the church’s Schokey Lounge as an online Bible study, this study is available for participation by a broader audience while we are physically separated. The study leader or “host” for the Spring sessions will normally be Pastor Dick Herman, a retired pastor from First Presbyterian Church, who has engaged as a member of our regular MMBS over the past year or so.
Following a discussion and discovery format, the group focuses on the Scripture lessons assigned for the upcoming Sunday as we listen, learn and share together. Built on a conviction that the Holy Spirit guides influences all of us through Scripture as God’s Word and through the insight of others in Christ, this study can also prepare us for worship and the Word on the following Sunday.
During this season of isolation, the group will use the same Zoom internet conferencing utility as for St. Matthew’s online Easter service. In Zoom, participants can see and hear each other, as well as be seen and heard by others if all have a camera and microphone on their computer. In this way, readings can be shared, thoughts can be shared, and the contributions of each person can be appreciated. However, if one’s mouth is full of morning coffee or someone is having a bad hair day, he or she can also choose not to speak or be seen.
While keeping social distance, Zoom is an easy tool for enabling groups like the MMBS to stay connected and continue. If things are working well in the tech-world, all it takes is a click on a link sent out before each 10:30 AM Monday session. Then, just follow the instructions … once on, someone can help, if needed.
To sign-up to get the Zoom link and participate in the “MMBS-in isolation,” all you need to do is send an e-mail from the address to which you want the notice sent, to Wayne Becker. Then, you’ll be on the participant list for as long as this ‘social distancing’ season lasts.
Open your Bible. Open your heart and mind. Join us. All are welcome!
