The Monday Morning Bible Study Fellowship (MMBSF) has restarted after a two-week break around Christmas. It meets on Zoom at 10:30am on Monday mornings. This online group morphed out of a weekly Bible Study that has met at Church for many years, in response to the call for social distancing during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Our “virtual” meeting on Zoom lets us include people who couldn’t make a meeting at church, some past members who have moved away and some new … Texas, South Carolina, Western Pennsylvania, presently… really, no limit … your aunt in Iowa, your children in Boston, your neighbor? We are an open ‘fellowship’: “ALL ARE WELCOME!”
The Study meeting focuses on the Scripture passages to be read in the next Sunday’s service. We read them, dissect them, question the parts and how they relate in the passage and to the witness of Scripture as a whole, seeking greater understanding and relation to God through the Spirit in the Word and each other. The Zoom format makes it easy to comment or listen and contemplate, as the participants choose.
We are fortunate to have The Rev. Dr. Richard Herman, (retired pastor in the Presbyterian Church, a “full communion” partner of the ELCA, and Spiritual Director) as our leader in this “Zoom Season.” He typically sends an e-mail to participants the week before we meet that forwards copies of the lessons and a Zoom link for the upcoming Monday. He does a good job of encouraging and focusing diverse discussion. So often, as a group and individually, we come to new and sometimes startling understandings! So, come, listen, talk, think, enjoy!
