Grace for Troubled Minds: Christian Perspectives on Mental Health

Did you know that 1 in 4 adults suffer from mental illness?  1 in 5 children suffer from it, as well.  450 million people around the world suffer from mental illness.  It is the number one disability in North America.  Yet it is not talked about at church.

Many of us struggle with it or struggle to get help and support, while others struggle to understand and help family members dealing with their medical disorder. There is help. How can the medical field and the church help you?

God cares about and is with you on this healing journey, and we the church are called to bear one another’s burdens and help support you along the way.  Just like you would want to treat a broken arm or cancer with medical treatment and pray for healing, you would want to seek treatment and support for mental illness and be surrounded in prayer to support you and your loved ones in this time of need.  God cares about your wholeness:  body, mind, and soul.

Besides praying for you, how else can the church help you?  Feel free to chat with Pastor Alexis about your needs and offer ideas of what would be helpful.  Remember, You are beloved!  All of us have been claimed as God’s beloved children in Christ and are called from darkness into light through his healing love, mercy, and grace to be a light to others.  If you have experience with mental illness or would like to start a support group or need to chat or find resources, contact Pastor Alexis to find a time to chat and pray together.  You are not alone. Shalom!
