Here are three ideas for going “green” in your kitchen.

Avoid Plastic Bottles
Use a water filter pitcher for your drinking water. You’ll filter up to 40 gallons of water with one filter and eliminate some 303, 16-ounce plastic bottles. Always use a reusable water bottle.

Make your own soda
You can make your own soda water and save many plastic seltzer bottles from the recycle bin. To calculate if a soda maker is worth the investment, based on your household’s usage, check out this Consumer Reports’ calculator.

Use Reusable K-cups
If you have a Keurig-style coffee maker you can use reusable K cups. You simply scrape out the coffee grounds and reuse. Even the K-cups that they say are compostable are only compostable at special composting sites and there are none in New Jersey.
