We received the sad news that the Hassingers died in a 2-person plane crash on Thursday afternoon, 10/25. Herman was the architect not only for Saint Matthew, but also over 200 churches up and down the eastern seaboard.
There will be two services. The first will be a memorial service on Block Island at 12:30 pm, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at St Andrew Catholic Church on Chapel St. (There is a ferry to Block Island at 11:00 on Saturday, returning to Point Judith at 5:30). The second will be a funeral service in Kingston, RI, at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 10, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Old North Rd, Kingston, RI. The Hassingers were members of this congregation and it is the last church Herman designed. In lieu of flowers Herman and Doris asked that donations could be made to the Block Island Library or the Block Island Medical Center.
