Courageous Conversations: Navigating Challenging Christian Issues

The Adult Forum is held from 9:15-10:15 AM on Sunday mornings in the church library and can be accessed through Zoom. All are welcome to join as you are able.

Join us for a new Adult Forum series on controversial or difficult topics within Christian circles.

Can we understand the concerns of different sides so that we can have a nuanced conversation about them? What do the Bible and Christian tradition, particularly the Lutheran tradition, have to say on these issues? Come to listen, learn, and discuss. The goal is to have a basic understanding of the issues and to determine which ones might be worth engaging in deeper conversation. Join in person or on Zoom.

Talking About Things We Don’t Talk About:

A word cloud of health-related terms like "diet," "wellness," and "sport" in shades of blue and green. A magnifying glass is held over the center, focusing on and enlarging the words "MENTAL HEALTH" and "HAPPINESS."

September 21st—Mental Health

Why is mental health so difficult to discuss in church? For many, the answer is complicated, tangled in stigma and the well-meaning but often unhelpful advice to simply “pray more.” In the first session of our new series, we will open a compassionate conversation about mental and emotional well-being.

A white Holy Bible is placed on top of an American flag, which is spread across a wooden surface. The bible is positioned over both the blue field with white stars and the red and white stripes.

September 28th—Christian Nationalism

Our series continues with a look at Christian Nationalism. We will explore the various definitions of the term and discuss its role in contemporary society and faith. Join us as we seek to understand different perspectives through thoughtful and respectful conversation.

A close-up shot of three people sitting at a wooden table with open Bibles in front of them. Their hands are clasped together over the books, suggesting they are in prayer or a Bible study group.

October 5th—Sanctuary Congregations

In the final session of this series, we will discuss the topic of Sanctuary Congregations. What does it mean for a church to be a sanctuary? We will explore the biblical and theological foundations for this practice and learn about its modern-day implications.
