I love New Year’s Eve. It is not so much that my birthday is the next day. I love New Year’s Eve for its own sake. The evening has such energy. It may be staying at home or being out in crowds, but for me there is always a kind of buzz to the evening. I prefer to go out and be somewhere with a hum of activity, though that is not always possible. I have long had a goal of celebrating New Year’s Eve somewhere different each year. Most years it has worked out. Over the years it has included big cities like New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. Other years it has been smaller places: Big Bend National Park, Cherry Hill, West Orange. We have not yet decided what we feel comfortable doing this year. Ideally we will find an outdoor activity that will work. Whatever it is, the night is one that I look forward to enjoying.
