It’s been a long time since we’ve had a yard to care for, and it is easy to forget all of the details that go into the upkeep. Our big outdoor project at the moment is the driveway. We have a gravel driveway, but the gravel had clearly not been replenished in several years. The dirt was starting to show through in several spots. Growing up, we had a gravel driveway until it was paved when I was 11 or 12. I can recall using my little shovel to help move piles of gravel around. I’m not sure I realized how little of the work I had in fact done until now, though. We just had 17 tons of gravel dumped on the driveway. We have actually had fun with all four of us going out and shoveling stones from the big piles across the driveway, two with shovels and two with rakes. After an hour of work, though, we are all wiped out and lined up for our turn taking a bath with Epsom salt! I am not sure how long it is going to take to get all of those rocks spread out, but so far it has been a fun family bonding experience.
