I write this as we have just finished Ash Wednesday. In a two-pastor household, Ash Wednesday is one of the more frenetic days of the year. At St. Matthew, we had services at 3:00 and 7:30 pm. Lord of Life had events at 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. In between is preparation time for the services and other upcoming events at both congregations. This means that for our children the day is a blur of adults coming and going at odd intervals.
Luckily they are happy to do some basic cooking for themselves, and leap at the opportunity to make themselves macaroni and cheese for dinner. It is something that their father, in his mean nutrition-conscious ways, only rarely does for them. While the day is a whirlwind of activity around the house, they do manage to find ways to look forward to it.
