Weekly Devotions for June 9, 2026

Buy truth, and do not sell it;
    buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding – Proverbs 23:23

Sights and insights. This is a name that came to me in my first weeks at St. Matthew. I wanted to include a devotion of some sort with the weekly eblast to make sure that along with information about what was going on, there was a reminder to look for God with you during the week. Fumbling around with different titles, I fell into this one. Looking at Merriam-webster.com, we find these definitions:

Sights: a thing regarded as worth seeing —usually used in plural; the act of looking at or beholding

Insights: the ability to understand people and situations in a very clear way : the ability to discern deeply and acutely; the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively

Taken together, I take this title to mean the act of noticing and paying attention to the world in order to perceive God’s presence around us. Writing the devotions has been for me an act of reflecting on my week to see if I can pick out some ways that I can see God at work. In that, it has been a wonderful spiritual discipline for me. The hope is that these reflections also help you to think about your week. Have you taken time to notice the details of your life? Might you apprehend the inner nature of things, otherwise known as God at work around you?

This may be the last of these devotional writings, but the opportunity to attune ourselves to God at work in our week remains. Continue to behold your daily activities, seeing them not only as tasks and chores but also as worth seeing. Then seek insight, discerning how those normal occurrences are the places where God does amazing things. Keep open to the sights and insights of life.
