In June, we had a fantastic time gleaning with New Jersey Farmers Against Hunger. Together our team of youth and families gleaned over 1,000 pounds of Swiss chard and other greens to help feed local families in need, while decreasing the huge impact of food waste (1 in every 3 bites!) on our environment. Thanks to Specca Pick-Your-Own Farm for generously donating access to the crops.
The Children’s Pollinator Garden also is in full bloom; many thanks to all of the volunteers who have kept it well-tended and well-hydrated through the hot weather. Please stop by – you will be amazed at the variety of bees, butterflies and other insects that come to partake of this unique habitat!
This year we will be continuing many popular programs, events and opportunities to get involved, including:
- Meatless Monday Potluck (mark your calendars tentatively for Monday, October 22)
- Adult Forum and Sunday school series
- Thanksgiving packing event with NJ Farmers Against Hunger (November), and other service opportunities
We also will have a few surprises up our sleeves, so stay tuned!
If you feel called to help fulfill our ministry’s mission, “To reveal the connection of our congregation and community to God’s presence in the natural world, by fostering a culture of environmental reflection, engagement and stewardship,” then please consider joining our team – we would love to have you! Meetings are held on ministry night; adults and youth (7th grade and up) are welcome.
