DEI: Recognizing & Celebrating Differences
We all share the same God and Savior, who created each of us as unique individuals. We invite you to share your life experiences—from cultural differences to challenges like mobility or hearing issues—so we can build a more compassionate community.
Join us in the lounge after service for a cup of coffee and a 10-minute story share. “It is not our differences that divide us. It is the inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” — Audre Lorde
Stephen Ministry: Empathy Enriches Our Lives
Stephen Ministry skills are fortified monthly through Continuing Education. Recently, we discussed David Brooks’ “The Art of Empathy.” Empathy is the ability to understand a person from their point of view. We can strengthen our empathy through several practices:
- Encourage hostile groups to work together as equals on common goals.
- Closely observe people to widen your perspective on why they act.
- Read biographies to vicariously experience the emotional lives of others.
- Give yourself “permission to feel.” Exercising emotions has a positive effect on those around you.
- Use your own dark moments to connect with and understand others.
If you would like to talk with a Stephen Minister, contact Sue Kuhn or Pastor Trozzo. Our next meeting is March 25.
